World War ll Women Warriors
WWll British Special Operations Executive knew exactly the value of Women Warriors. Trained in the use of Morse Code Radio Telegraphy they were invaluable for organising weapon drops for the benefit of the French Resistance and weather reports for RAF bombing missions.
When seen walking about a French village with a basket over her arm: "Oh, she's just a young lady out shopping for grandma." But if it was a man: "Why isn't he at work? What's goin' on?!" That's how the German soldiers would think.
Even so, the average life expectancy of a SOE lady operator in the field was just six weeks. Suitcase radio 15 Watts on 5 to 7 MHz with dipole or LW antenna powered by overhead light bulb socket was relatively easy for the Germans to detect. They waited for her to transmit then closed the electricity grid in sections, until the signal abruptly stopped, followed by a thorough house to house search. But she had her cyanide pill...
